Bharti Airtel Denies Reports of Major Data Breach

Telecom giant Bharti Airtel has strongly denied any breach of its security systems following reports of a major data leak involving customer information. The company insists these claims are unfounded and part of a “desperate attempt” to tarnish its reputation.

Airtel Response to the Allegations:

An Airtel spokesperson told Moneycontrol, “There has been a report alleging that Airtel customer data has been compromised. This is nothing short of a desperate attempt by vested interests to tarnish Airtel’s reputation.”

The spokesperson stated, “We have done a thorough investigation and can confirm that there has been no breach from Airtel systems.”

Details of the Alleged Leak:

Unverified reports suggested that details of 375 million Airtel users, including their phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, dates of birth, father’s names, and Aadhaar numbers, were available for sale on the dark web. These alarming claims have raised concerns among Airtel’s extensive customer base.

Expert Analysis on the Airtel Data BreachSituation:

Rahul Sasi, CEO of cybersecurity firm CloudSEK, provided his insights on LinkedIn. He stated that the actor involved has “gathered previously leaked data and falsely claimed it to be a recent breach of Airtel’s database.”

He explained, “Over the past few years, there have been numerous instances of millions of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) being leaked from various providers. Threat actors are aggregating this publicly available leaked information and falsely attributing it to telecom databases.

It’s important to note that using publicly available datasets, it’s relatively easy to compile a database consisting of first names, last names, and phone numbers belonging to any service provider.
