Gujarat’s ‘oldest’ village: 300 out of 1100 population abroad, 57-year-old sarpanch the youngest, all eat in one kitchen.
Chandanki village of Mehsana is putting an excellent example. With approximately 1100, the village has more than 300 live in countries like the United States, Australia, and Canada. Not only that, but other citizens of this village have settled in various cities throughout the state. The settlement has a population of only 50-60 individuals at the time.
Everyone in the village is over 60 years old, but Poonambhai Patel, the village sarpanch, is the youngest, at 57 years old, or desires himself to be the youngest. In this village now, there isn’t a single young male.
On the other hand, the village has a wide range of facilities and is clean.
“I have been living in this village for the previous three years,” Chandanaki village sarpanch Poonambhai stated with the visitors. I had previously spent 20 years in New York.
However, my attachment to the lovely and wonderful village has not gone. I own a home in Ahmedabad, but I don’t enjoy living there, so I’ve moved to the village.
About 1100 people live in the Village, with 300 of them living in the United States, Australia, and Canada. In addition, the villagers live in different cities, including Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Himmatnagar.
Every older people eats in the same kitchen.
“Ratilal Somnath Patel started a kitchen in the village 8 to 10 years ago, which has been improve over time,” Poonambhai explained. Every senior citizen now enjoys their favourite dish here. This work is also well support by the guys who live outside of our village. We also provide tiffins to the elders who are unable to join dinner.
There hasn’t been a panchayat election in the village yet.
“We are Chandanki’s bonded people,” Poonambhai continue. Our Chandanki village is a village connected from abroad, a village that lives for each other. So no one ever express disappointment.
Since the formation of the Panchayat state in the country, no election has been held in the village. Moreover, in the village, no police case has been file to date. “It’s as simple as that.”
“Even though only senior residents live in our village, there is so much progress because of the children living outside,” said Ratilal Patel of Chandanki village. Our village is now additionally fit with security cameras.
