India Crush West Indies by Innings in Dominant Test Win

India stamped their authority on the opening Test against West Indies with a crushing victory by an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad. The match, which concluded inside three days, saw the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series through an all-round dominant performance.

Vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 104 before claiming four wickets for 54 runs to dismantle the West Indies batting lineup. After India declared at 448 for 5, the visitors were bundled out for just 146 in their second innings, unable to withstand the combined pressure of India’s pace and spin attack.

Bowling Depth Proves Decisive

Mohammed Siraj (3/31) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/23) provided excellent support to Jadeja, showcasing India’s formidable bowling depth. The seamless rotation between pacers and spinners kept West Indies under constant pressure throughout the match.

Captain Shubman Gill expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance at the post-match presentation. “This was a perfect game for us. Three centurions in the game, and we fielded really well in both innings,” Gill stated. However, he acknowledged that both he and Yashasvi Jaiswal missed opportunities to convert their starts into bigger scores.

Captain Embraces Selection Challenges

Addressing the challenge of managing multiple bowling options, Gill emphasized the positive aspect of having depth. “It’s always better to have too many choices rather than too few. That’s the challenge and also the fun of playing in India—there will always be someone ready to get the job done,” he explained.

The second Test is scheduled to begin in New Delhi on October 10, with India looking to extend their series advantage.
