The Indian Railways has initiated an investigation following an alarming incident where a freight train traveled over 70 kilometers without any drivers onboard, raising serious safety concerns.

Videos circulating on social media captured the freight train speeding past multiple stations without apparent control, sparking widespread astonishment and prompting swift action from railway authorities.

Unmanned Journey from Kathua to Hoshiarpur:

According to reports, on Sunday, the unmanned train journey occurred between Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir and Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, highlighting a critical lapse in operational safety protocols within the Indian Railways system.

The incident unfolded between 07:25 and 09:00 local time on Sunday, as the 53-wagon train, laden with stone chips, unexpectedly began moving downhill on the tracks after the train crew disembarked during a scheduled stop in Kathua.

Efforts to Halt the Runaway Train:

Railway officials swiftly mobilized to mitigate the crisis, closing railway crossings along the train’s path and deploying innovative measures such as placing wooden blocks on the tracks to slow down the unmanned train’s momentum and ultimately bring it to a halt.

Thankfully, no injuries or casualties were reported due to the incident. Still, the Indian Railways has launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the incident’s root cause and implement the required measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
