Nearly 45 passengers had a narrow escape when a state transport bus caught fire in Maharashtra’s Thane city on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 8:18 am near Vitawa bridge, close to the Kalwa police station.

The bus, operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), was en route from Khopat bus depot to Pali in Raigad district when its engine suddenly burst into flames. Prompt action by a vigilant police constable led to the immediate alerting of the disaster management cell.

Both local firefighters and the disaster management team swiftly responded to the scene. All passengers were safely evacuated from the bus, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the bus sustained significant damage due to the fire.

A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, highlighting the importance of ensuring the safety and maintenance of public transport vehicles. Despite the ordeal, the quick and coordinated response of emergency services averted a potential tragedy, ensuring the well-being of all passengers involved.
