Rising costs and cautious demand could shape Apple’s pricing strategy.
Apple’s next-generation iPhone 18 is expected to debut in India before March 2027, but its price tag is already sparking debate. With the iPhone 17’s official cost climbing from ₹79,900 at launch to ₹99,900 today, buyers are questioning whether the upcoming model will cross the ₹1 lakh threshold.
The pricing trend is difficult to ignore. Apple has steadily raised costs across its product line, including the iPhone 18 Pro series, which reportedly saw increases of around ₹30,000. Rising component expenses and supply chain challenges have made it harder for the company to absorb costs without passing them on to consumers. If the standard iPhone 18 follows this trajectory, it may be priced close to ₹99,900 in India, leaving little room for affordability.
Market conditions could also influence Apple’s decision. Reports suggest the company has asked suppliers to cut production of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max components by up to 15 percent due to weaker demand. This signals that consumers are becoming more cautious about spending on premium devices. For Apple, keeping the standard iPhone below ₹1 lakh may be crucial to maintaining its appeal in a price-sensitive market like India.
In terms of features, the iPhone 18 is expected to retain a familiar design with a 6.3‑inch display, though it may feature brighter screens and a smaller Dynamic Island. The biggest upgrade is performance: Apple is said to be preparing its A20 chip, built on a 2‑nanometre process, promising better efficiency and longer battery life than the A19 series.
Memory specifications remain uncertain, with analysts divided between 9GB and 12GB of RAM. The higher configuration could enable advanced Apple Intelligence features, including enhanced Siri voice customization and improved speech-to-text capabilities. Apple’s new C2 modem may also boost connectivity, though real-world performance details are yet to emerge.
Overall, the iPhone 18 appears to be an evolution rather than a radical redesign, focusing on processing power, battery efficiency, and AI-driven features. The bigger question, however, is whether Indian buyers will pay nearly ₹1 lakh for incremental upgrades. Apple’s pricing strategy in the coming months will determine whether the iPhone 18 succeeds or faces resistance in one of its most competitive markets.
