Mira Nair to make a series based on the New York Times’ article The Jungle Prince of Delhi.

Mira Nair will adapt the article titled The Jungle Prince of Delhi, which reveals the truth about the history of the Royal family of Oudh.

Director Mira Nair is set to adapt Ellen Barry’s article, published as a story and podcast on the New York Times, titled The Jungle Prince of Delhi as a drama series for Amazon. The article was a 2020 Pulitzer Prize finalist and it reveals the truth about the history of the royal family of Oudh. As per Variety, the article narrates how the royal family lived in a ruined palace in Delhi and claimed to be the heirs to the fallen kingdom.

Nair as a director and executive producer:

Mira Nair will be involved in the project as the Director and Executive Producer. Nair has an eye for deep conflicts and has got international fame and success due to films like Salam Bombay, Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake, and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The writer Ellen Barry tweeted the news with a link to the story and said,” Exciting News: The Jungle Prince, my piece about one of Delhi’s great legends, a mysterious family who lived in a ruined palace in the forest, will be adapted by @MiraPagliNair, Amazon & Sister Pictures, the producers of Chernobyl”.

The Jungle Prince of Delhi into a web series:

Variety reported that the series will also be executive produced by Jane Featherstone, Stacey Snider, Kate Fenske of SISTER, Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment’s Gary Foster and Russ Krasnoff, Christina Lurie of Fourth and Twenty Eight Films, and Barry and Head of Scripted Entertainment for The New York Times, Caitlyn Roper.

Roper expressed her delight on behalf of the news publication for making the Jungle Prince of Delhi into a web series. She said,” The beautifully written tale of the Oudh family revealed deeper truths rooted in the violence and trauma of the partition of India.”
