In the past, many said Mumbai was the best place in Monsoon. Greenery, people, food and all. But things are turning as Mumbai slums are affected massively due to heavy pour downs.
Is this due to extreme rainfall, climate change or poor town planning? Well, that’s tough to answer, but now things are changing as the most loved season of Mumbai is not so favourite for many in Mumbai.
Monsoon is one of the best seasons to experience; the smell of mud, the small drizzle and the voice of water are so fascinating.
And if you are from Mumbai, this season will be a completely different experience for you as Mumbai is one of the states to receive the highest rainfall.
Mumbaikar’s and Monsoon seasons from the last 1 decade:
If you will ask a Mumbaikar, his rain experience will be completely different. Every Mumbaikar only enjoys the first rain every year; later, they get irritated thanks to waterlogging, traffic and other issues.
As soon as the rainy season peaks, many issues also pop up for mumbaikers, such as the potholes on the roads and waterlogging. The railway services also get affected, and railways are their main necessity.
But along with all this, there is another big problem faced by the citizens of Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, who stay in slums.
Mumbai Slums in Monsoon:
The people with less income, or those who live illegally, are the slums committee. They are the most ignored committee by the government, and that’s the harsh reality that they face many problems in the rainy season.
For them, the rain is not enjoying from the balcony with hot tea and some snacks together. As heavy rain comes, their problems begin; the water gets into their houses in every possible way. Some may get drainage water in their house due to rain.
The Monsoon 2023 is showing colours:
As the rain is at its peak this year, at just the start of the season. Several states have experienced flood-like situations, such as Delhi and Himachal.
Himachal rains have put the state on pause heavy landslides are seen. The Delhi rain has been hitting the headlines for the past 2/3 weeks as the situation is getting worse.
Mumbai is also experiencing heavy rains from June onwards, as alerts have been issued in several parts of Maharashtra, such as Raigad, Kolhapur, Thane, etc.
Let’s see what more Monsoon 2023 will bring for us, as it dominates the nation in just one month.
