According to officers, it was the second time in nearly a month that something similar had happened in the US.

The lady in the more recent case was at Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center at Long Island’s Port Jefferson at 11.15 in the morning of Saturday when she was declared dead, the local county police told.

The female, whose name was not revealed, was reportedly rushed to the OB Davis Funeral Homes in Miller Place, New York, at 1.30 pm. Police stated she was found breathing at 2.09 pm.

The woman was rushed to a hospital. No update on her situation was available Monday.

The alleged premature proclamation of demise occurred days after a continuing care home in Iowa was penalized $10,000 (£8,320) over a similar case.

Authorities in Iowa stated that a 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead on 3 January at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa, where she got hospice care.
