‘One man to another, India looks the better group’: Vengsarkar.

KEY POINTS :

  • Former India batsman Dilip Vengsarkar reckons Virat Kohli’s India hold the advantage over New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championships.
  • Vengsarkar’s comment stems from his knowledge that India is the better-balanced side among the two and that their batsmen and bowlers are just that tad better than New Zealand.

New Zealand may have gotten an early advantage over India by arriving in the UK early and playing two Tests against England to get ready for the World Test Championship last.

However, previous India batsman Dilip Vengsarkar figures Virat Kohli and his men benefit from their rivals. Vengsarkar’s remark originates from his conviction that India is the better-adjusted side among the two. Their batsmen and bowlers are only that bit better than New Zealand.

“If you contrast the New Zealand group with the Indian group, one man to another, India looks the better group,” Vengsarkar revealed to Khaleej Times.

“Trent Boult is a-list bowler, and Kane Williamson is a top-notch batsman. In any case, India is an all the more all-around group. We have quality spinners (Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja), we have quality quick bowlers (Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj) and quality hitters too.”

A previous BCCI boss selector, Vengsarkar, has encouraged Indian batsmen to help Virat Kohli. Kohli was the solitary fighter in the batting withdrawing during India’s last visit through England in 2018, scoring 593 runs with two centuries and three fifties. Even though there was support in pieces and pieces from Cheteshwar Pujara (278 runs in four matches), Ajinkya Rahane (257 runs in five matches) and to a specific degree Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, who smacked a century each, the batting all in all left a great deal to be want.

This time around, Vengsarkar feels India needs more commitments from their players if they are to get an opportunity of winning in England.

“There are capable parts in the (Indian) group. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, are elite cricketers. Be that because it may, it is additionally significant for different players to contribute, you know, since you can’t rely just upon two players. Everyone needs to contribute on the off chance that you are playing Test match cricket,” the previous India batsman added.
