Actress Priyanka Chopra in an interview, talks about the problems or, we can say, obstacles she faced as an Indian actor in Hollywood.

If she led a TV show in America, she stated that viewers outside of the South Asian diaspora might not be interested in her because of the perception that she might ‘cater to just a South Asian audience.

Priyanka Chopra claimed she had observed a “huge difference” in the past ten years since she started focusing on her Hollywood career.

She has appeared in Hollywood movies like Baywatch and The Matrix Resurrections and also will soon be featured on Amazon Video’s spy thriller Citadel.

The actor claimed that the advent of streaming increased the importance of entertainment globalisation.

“I believe what has changed the most is streaming. When streaming became available, the need for globalisation became even more pressing.

The most difficult obstacle I faced as an Indian actor was a limited view of my capabilities. “It has been a huge change, and I am very happy to have colleagues and peers who have the strength and bravery to swim through a water that has kept us out for a very long time and demand a seat at the table,” Priyanka told Bloomberg.

Priyanka said in the same interview that while there is still “a long way to go,” she is optimistic about the future. “When it comes to the arts, we will always push the envelope to ensure more inclusion,” she said.

Priyanka co-hosted the 2nd annual South Asian Excellence at the Oscars event on March 9 before the 2023 Oscars held on March 12 (March 13 in India).

Ram Charan, Mindy Kaling, Jr NTR, Guneet Monga Nick Jonas, Jacqueline Fernandez, Preity Zinta, Malala Yousafzai, and many others gathered at Los Angeles’ Paramount Studios to honour nominees from RRR, All That Breathes, and The Elephant Whisperers.

The RRR song Naatu Naatu as well as the documentary The Elephant Whisperers, both received Oscars at the 95th Academy Awards, making it a historic night for India.

The Elephant Whisperers received the Best Documentary Short prize, while Naatu Naatu took home the Best Original Music award.
