Lucknow Super Giants did score a win, maybe their most important of the season, as they advanced to the playoffs on Saturday, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by one run at Eden Gardens. 

Yet, all the world cricket could speak about was one man, and only one man – Rinku Singh. From teammates to the opposing captain, everyone praised the KKR star for nearly pulling off an impossible feat, only to fall short by one run. 

Finally, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir sent Rinku a “sensational” tweet, which quickly went popular on social media.

Rinku has become the star and one of the discoveries of IPL 2023. In 14 matches for KKR, he hammered 474 runs with four fifties at a fantastic strike rate of 149.53. 305 of those runs came during chasing at a strike rate of 153.50. All of his half-century knocks have occurred in a chasing game.

Rinku had constructed a similar stage for himself on Saturday. After the LSG spinners stifled the KKR middle order, he single-handedly resurrected KKR in the chase of 177 at home with another half-century. LSG remained in the game, with the calculation showing 40 off 12 balls.

Rinku then took on Naveen-ul-Haq for 20 runs, including a hat-trick of boundaries, before attempting a miracle against Yash Thakur in the last over, smashing 6, 4, 6 in the last three balls. However, KKR’s efforts were in vain, as a single run defeated them.

After the game, Gautam Gambhir approached Rinku and spoke with him, a photo of which he later shared on Twitter, in which he praised the KKR player. “What an effort by Rinku today!” he wrote. “Sensational talent!”

Gambhir and both captains praised Rinku for his performance in the match and throughout IPL 2023.

“I feel like I’ve mentioned Rinku in all 14 matches.” “I am personally very happy for him (Rinku), and I don’t have words to describe him because the entire world has seen what he can do on a cricket pitch,” KKR skipper Nitish Rana said when asked to identify the season’s positives.

“Rinku has been special this year; when he’s there, you can’t relax.” Today he demonstrated it again, but it is a high-pressure position as we bowl death overs to carry out our objectives,” remarked LSG captain Krunal Pandya.
