A 16-year-old girl fled Kolkata with her 6-year-old sister, faking her kidnapping because she was frightened of confronting her parents after receiving low marks in the Class 10 exam.

The youngster fabricated her kidnapping and attempted to extort money from her father by asking Rs 1 crore in ransom.

The girl texted her father an SMS requesting Rs 1 crore in exchange for the freedom of his daughters.

On Friday, the West Bengal Board of Higher Secondary Education released the Class 10 Madhyamik test results. The girl, who lives in the Bansdroni district of south Kolkata, also took the exam.

After the results were out, she left her house with her 6-year-old sister to go to a web cafe to download her mark sheet. When she didn’t return for a while, her parents tried to call her, but she was unavailable, according to police.

They filed a missing report with the police, which prompted an investigation.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and initiated a hunt for the girls. The girl’s scooty was later discovered near a local metro station.

Meanwhile, the parents received an SMS informing them that their children had been kidnapped and that Rs 1 crore was required to secure their quick release. They were also told to bring the money to the Nepalganj area.

Police assumed that the juvenile girl and her sister boarded a Krishnanagar local train from Sealdah rail station during the investigation.

The Kolkata Police, in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Krishnanagar District Police, provided images of the girls for identification.

As per the police reports, the Krishnanagar district police soon saw both girls in front of the Divine Nursing Home in Nadia district. They were then rescued and escorted to the police station.

According to a Kolkata police source, “during the investigation, it was discovered that the minor girl had scored 31% in Class 10 exams.”

The girl was disappointed since she had promised her parents that she would do well in the exams but failed.”

She then departed the city with her sister, fabricated her kidnapping, and attempted to extort money from her father.
