On Sunday afternoon, 30 km distant from Odisha’s Bhadrak railway station, a Norwester with a hailstorm damaged the windscreen of the main engine and also the glass windows of some compartments of the newly-launched Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express.

According to officials, the 22896 Vande Bharat Express was struck by lightning and a hailstorm, which damaged the driver’s cabin’s windscreen.

According to officials, the overhead electric cable was also broken by an uprooted tree, causing the train to remain stranded at the Baitarani Road railway overbridge for more than two hours.

“All 250 passengers on the train are safe. As the pantograph is entangled with the overhead wire, a diesel engine will clear the train from the location to Manjuri Road very soon.

After the train is cleared up to Manjuri Road, it will resume its normal route to its destination. “The train is expected to arrive in Howrah around 7.30 p.m.,” stated an East Coast Railways official.

After being stranded, some people aboard the train resorted to social media to complain about the absence of electricity in the carriages.

The 16th Vande Bharat Express, Odisha’s first semi-high-speed train from Puri to West Bengal’s Howrah, was virtually set off on Thursday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who referred to it as a symbol of India’s growth. The Indian Railways intends to run the express in all states by the end of next month.
