IRS officer Sameer Wankhede filed a petition with the Bombay High Court on Friday in the alleged Rs 25 crore extortion case involving the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in 2021.

Wankhede claimed in his appeal that the CBI case against him was motivated by vengeance. An urgent hearing has been scheduled for 2.30 p.m.

The former NCB Mumbai zone commander escaped the CBI summons on Thursday after the Delhi high court granted him protection from arrest till May 22.

On May 17, the Delhi High Court permitted Wankhede to seek further remedy from the Bombay High Court.

He also filed a cross-FIR against NCB deputy director-general Gyaneshwar Singh in the Delhi High Court.

Several charges on IRS officer Sameer Wankhede:

1. Sameer Wankhede rose to prominence in Bollywood after declaring war on drug addiction. Following the Rhea Chakraborty case (the NCB was investigating the narcotics angle in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case at the time), Wankhede investigated the Aryan Khan case in 2021.

2. His term as Mumbai zone leader expired in 2021, and by then, he had been the subject of multiple charges.

3. Sameer Wankhede was away from the headlines at his new job in Chennai. According to reports, he took the maximum amount of days off.

4. Wankhede was thrust back into the spotlight after the CBI filed an FIR against him, alleging that he wanted a payment of Rs 25 crore from Shah Rukh Khan in exchange for not framing charges against Aryan Khan through KP Gosavi, an impartial witness, but was granted free rein in the Aryan Khan case.

5. The CBI claimed Sameer Wankhede underreported the costs of his abroad visits, which he took six times in the last five years.
