Sara Ali Khan about Karisma Kapoor’s ‘inevitable similarities’ in Coolie No 1.

Actor Sara Ali Khan said it was not necessary to step into Karisma Kapoor’s shoes. In the upcoming remake of Coolie No 1, alongside Varun Dhawan, Sara will appear as the lead female. Govinda, as well as Karisma, starred in the lead roles in the original film.

She said that when the first film was released in 1995, she was ‘zero years old,’ and that she finds it a pleasure to be able to collaborate with director David Dhawan, who produced and directed the original Coolie No 1 as well as the remake.

Sara on Karishma Kapoor:

It is a reboot, of course, and similarities are unavoidable. I’ve been so much more focused on bringing something new to the table so far. It’s all kind of tweaked to make it easier today.

She went on. Some years have passed since then.” It has changed things. I think we have tried to add a freshness to the position instead of aping or attempting to imitate Karisma, which is difficult to do.

 I enjoyed working with Varun, so it’s the chemistry that’s in the film for me as opposed to trying to imitate Karisma Kapoor because it wouldn’t be enjoyable and it wouldn’t be possible.

Sara on launching movie on OTT: 

Coolie No 1 also features Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Johnny Lever. After its theatrical release was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film is scheduled for a Christmas Day launch on Amazon Prime Video. Sara said this would be the ‘safest’ way to watch the movie.
