As Maharashtra politicians were stunned by Sharad Pawar’s announcement to resign as president of the Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut, who is close to Pawar, compared Pawar to Balasaheb and said Balasaheb, too, had resigned from the chief’s post “fed up by dirty politics and allegations.”
“History seemed to have repeated itself… But, due to his love for Shivsainiks, he had to reverse his decision… “Pawar Saheb, like Balasaheb, is the soul of the state’s politics,” Sanjay Raut tweeted.
A year before the election, Sanjay Raut hinted at a big shift in Maharashtra politics. However, he hinted at a conflict within the NCP that could lead to a split in the party. Raut stated that Pawar told him there was pressure on people to break ranks.
This increased rumours that Sharad Pawar’s nephew, Ajit Pawar, might split from the NCP to back the BJP. While the party put these rumours to rest, Sharad Pawar announced his intention to step down as president on Tuesday. “There was a signal that the bhakri would be rotated…but the pan was rotated,” Sanjay Raut said following Sharad Pawar’s announcement, rather than Ajit Pawar’s, as expected.
Though the resignation of Sharad Pawar came as a surprise, it was foreshadowed by NCP MP and Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule.
Supriya Sule hinted last month that there could be two political explosions shortly, one in Delhi and one in Maharashtra, amid significant speculation about Ajit Pawar’s support for the BJP.
Sharad Pawar, who created the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999 after leaving the Congress, has stated that he will not retire from politics.
He stated that he would remain a member of his party but not as its leader. The resignation of Sharad Pawar may make it simpler for Ajit Pawar to support the BJP.
