Sharad Pawar on NCP separation, its backstab

NCP chief Sharad Pawar warned on Monday that Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde and the BJP would not meet all of the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs’ demands and that many dissident MLAs will return to the Sena fold. “Everyone is expecting the ministry or something big from the government,” Pawar remarked in Karad.

Pawar paid floral respects to his mentor and Maharashtra’s first chief minister Yashwantrao Chavan at his tomb in Karad.

Sharad Pawar addressed his supporters:

“Today, some groups in Maharashtra and across the country are tearing apart society in the name of caste and religion… “My fight is against communal forces, and I intend to rebuild the party,” Sharad Pawar stated to supporters.

The 82-year-old leader’s visit to the late Chavan’s memorial on Guru Purnima is considered a show of strength by him, coming just a day after his nephew Ajit Pawar led a vertical split in the NCP to become deputy chief minister in the Eknath Shinde-BJP cabinet.

Pawar claimed on Sunday that he was undaunted by his nephew Ajit Pawar’s rebellion and that he would begin again by travelling among the people.

On Monday morning, he departed Pune for Karad, stopping along the way to see supporters who had gathered on the roadside to greet and encourage him.
