A family outing at the Mahisagar River in Gujarat’s Anand district turned into a tragedy when four of its members, including two women, drowned, police said on Friday.
Mahisagar River Incident Details:
The incident occurred on June 6, when a family of four from Gamdi village ventured to a popular tourist site on Khanpur village’s outskirts to dip in the Mahisagar River. When one person began to drown, the other three entered the water in an attempt to save the person, but tragically, all four drowned.
Khambholaj police released a statement about the incident: “Four members of a family from Gamdi village were among the tourists who came to take a dip in the river. When one of them started drowning, three others ventured deep into the water to save that person. However, all of them eventually drowned in deep water.”
Response and Aftermath:
Though villagers rushed to the spot to rescue the family, it was too late. The bodies of the victims were recovered.
A case of accidental death was registered, and the bodies of the deceased, identified as Suresh Vaghela, Prakash Vaghela, Vesuben Solanki, and Jyoti Vaghela, were sent for a post-mortem examination.
Similar Incident at Dandi Beach:
This incident follows a similar tragedy in May, where four family members were swept away in the sea at Gujarat’s Dandi Beach. The family was picnicking on Navsari beach in the morning when the incident occurred.
The deceased in the Dandi Beach incident were identified as Sushila Gopalsinh Rajput (42), her sons Daksh (11) and Yuvraj (17), and her sister’s daughter Durga (17).

Officials provided details on the Dandi Beach tragedy: “The family was picnicking on the Navsari beach in the morning when four members were suddenly sucked into the sea.
Gopalsinh (Sushila Rajput’s husband) tried hard to save them. When he failed, he raised an alarm, following which the home guards rushed. They also tried their best but failed.
