According to Dr Subhash Salunke, the state’s advisor on Covid-19 management, the recent drop was made possible by the state’s lockdown-like limitations placed on April 22 and the ramping up of testing facilities regular provision of essential medication in impacted areas. Salunke blamed the late onset of the virus for the upsurge in cases in places like Kolhapur.

“The lockdown, as well as other variables such as increasing the number of tests and maintaining a consistent supply of medication, resulted in a reduction in instances. Because the virus arrived late in places like Kolhapur, active cases will decline in the next 15 days,” said Salunke.

Uddhav Thackeray, the chief minister of Maharashtra, stated that the lockdown-like restrictions, which had been imposed in an attempt to manage the escalating number of instances, would be lifted as of Monday.

On Sunday, a five-tier unlock strategy was launched, allowing locations with a positive rate of 5% or less and less than 25% oxygen bed occupancy to open up.

However, no public movement is permitted in areas with a positive rate of higher than 20% and an oxygen bed occupancy rate of more than 75%.
