Virat Kohli Staying with RCB Despite Contract Speculation

Speculation surrounding Virat Kohli’s future with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been put to rest by former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who confirmed that the star batter will continue his association with the franchise despite not signing a new commercial agreement.

Kohli, who has been with RCB since the IPL’s inaugural season in 2008, reportedly declined a commercial contract with the franchise, triggering rumors about a potential exit. However, Kaif emphasized that this decision does not affect Kohli’s player contract with the team.

Kohli’s Promise to RCB Fans Remains Intact

“Virat Kohli had promised that he would play his first and last match for Bengaluru only. He has promised this and since he has done it, he will not back out,” Kaif explained in an Instagram video, addressing concerns about the commercial deal.

Kaif clarified that there are two separate agreements: the player contract and the commercial contract. Kohli’s decision to hold off on the commercial deal stems from potential ownership changes at RCB, with the batter waiting for clarity before entering negotiations.

Recent Performances Highlight Kohli’s Value

The 36-year-old has been in exceptional form recently, playing a crucial role in RCB’s first-ever IPL title victory in 2025 with over 650 runs. His stellar performances continued on the international stage, earning him Player of the Match honors in the T20 World Cup 2024 final and Player of the Tournament at the 2023 World Cup.

“He has only started playing now. Now you have to wait for more. He is going nowhere. He will play only for RCB,” Kaif assured fans, reinforcing Kohli’s unwavering commitment to the franchise and its supporters.
