Over 38000 dengue cases were reported this season in West Bengal through September 20. Kolkata and regions in the state’s south being the hardest afflicted.

West Bengal reported 38000 dengue cases:

According to an official, North 24 Parganas was the worst-hit district (8535 cases), followed by Kolkata (4427), Murshidabad (4266), Nadia (4233), and Hooghly (3083). 

“North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Nadia share borders with Bangladesh, which is dealing with a dengue outbreak.” Another adjoining district, South 24 Parganas, reported 1276 instances.”

A second official stated that because Bangladesh is experiencing a major outbreak, persons affected by the virus may migrate here. 

“Mosquitoes may spread the disease further by biting an infected person.” “The strains in India and Bangladesh may differ as well,” added the second official.

Around 7000 cases were reported in 7 days:

According to data from the National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control, West Bengal had the most dengue cases in the country last year (67271) and at least 30 deaths.

Between September 13 and September 20, the state recorded approximately 7000 instances. “The 15 districts of south Bengal have been hit the hardest, with 34,905 cases reported.” 

“Around 3276 cases were recorded in the eight districts of north Bengal, which include the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong,” added the second official.
