Manipur Violence: The round 2 has been started in the state

Manipur Violence has started again, as murders of two Manipur students. On Tuesday, a new round of violence erupted as two Meitei students killed.

Following the murders of two students in Manipur, the Union Home Ministry recalled top Srinagar police official Rakesh Balwal to the northeastern state on Thursday.

This comes about a month after the home ministry advocated for additional officials in Manipur due to the current state of law and order.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the Ministry of Home Affairs proposal for premature repatriation of Shri Rakesh Balwal, IPS, from AGMUT cadre to Manipur cadre,” according to a notice.

Murder Caused the Manipur Violence:

Notably, the IPS officer is from the Manipur cadre stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. He was appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Srinagar in 2021.

He formerly served as Superintendent of Police at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a four-year tenure in 2018. Balwal was a team member that investigated the Pulwama terror incident in 2019.

On Tuesday, a new round of violence erupted in Manipur following the killing of two Meitei students who had gone missing in July.

The photographs of the two pupils became popular on social media shortly after mobile internet capabilities were restored.

As per the inquiry, both of them may have eloped on July 6 but were caught in a region occupied by the Kuki group while fleeing. Later they were allegedly abducted and murdered, according to Manipur police. The matter has now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Clash with police and RAF:

Following this incident, students and citizens took to the streets to protest, clashing with police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) members.

According to reports, between 25 and 30 demonstrators were injured.

In light of this, the state administration reimposed a five-day ban on mobile internet services in the violence-plagued state on Tuesday.
