Twitter cringes at Anushka’s Bengali accent and dusky complexion in Chakda Xpress.

The Chakde Xpress teaser includes a line spoken in Bengali by Anushka Sharma that Twitter did not approve.

On Thursday, Anushka Sharma released a teaser for Chakda Xpress, and Twitter reacted strongly. Anushka’s first movie in three years is Chakda Xpress, a biopic of cricketer Jhulan Goswami. She was last seen in 2018’s Zero. However, given her ‘weird’ Bengali accent and poor attempt at darkening her skin. Some on Twitter believe Anushka should have chosen a different film for her ‘comeback.’

However, the Chakda Xpress teaser includes a line spoken in Bengali by Anushka Sharma that was not approve by Twitter. “Kintu chinta koro na (But don’t worry),” Anushka as Jhulan says about her desire to make it big in the world of cricket. Viewers on Twitter have labeled Anushka’s accent as ‘cringeworthy’ and ‘horrible,’ with some even suggesting that a Bengali actress would have been better suited for the role.

“I have nothing against Anushka; she is a brilliant actress, but as a Bengali, I have issues with her strange accent,” one Twitter user wrote. “There are some fine actresses in the Bengali industry who could have played the role of Jhulan with elan,” another person added. But that’s not going to occur because we still need to find a popular Bollywood actor, put on layers of dusky makeup. And still not look the part, not even the accent.”

“Man, she doesn’t even look half as similar as Jhulan Goswami,” a disappointed Twitter user wrote.

Neither in stature nor complexion. “Even her Bengali accent is cringe-worthy,” said another, “and the way she says ‘Kintu chinta koro na. It appears that the filmmakers mistook Jhulan for a probasi Bangali (an expatriate Bengali).”

Yet another ‘offender’ Anushka’s Bengali accent was describe as ‘caricature’ by a Twitter user. “I’m sorry, but as a Bengali, I’m offended by that accent. So please don’t come at me saying Jhulan speaks like that or anything. This accent sounds like a caricature to me as a native Bengali. And I don’t think anyone who isn’t fluent in the language will understand.”
