The blazing fire that killed eight started in the
ICU department of Ahmedabad’s Shrey Hospital, which also is a COVID hospital.
In the early hours of Thursday,
a major fire broke out in Ahmedabad’s COVID hospital. A statement
from the CM office read that Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered a probe into the fire incident
which killed as many as eight COVID-19 positive patients, including three women
and five men.

To find out the reason behind the massive fire, Senior IAS officers Sangeeta Singh and Mukesh Puri have been appointed to carry out the probe. They have been given a three-day deadline to submit the findings in a report, by Chief Minister Rupani. An official statement from the CMO said that the chief minister has declared a compensation of INR 4 lakhs to the kin of the deceased, and financial aid of INR 50,000 to the injured patients.
Police says that the fire broke
out at 3:30 am:
The fire erupted around 3:30 am
in the wee hours of Thursday morning, in the ICU department of Shrey
Hospital, revealed the
police. The COVID hospital is located in the Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad. After sighting the fire, the hospital management
tried to evacuate the patients, as several fire brigade units rushed to the
spot. The fire department and the police rescued many other patients.
Confirming the same, was LB Zala, the assistant commissioner of police, B
division, Ahmedabad City. He stated that the bodies of the deceased were sent
for post mortem and that the situation is now under control.
PM Modi condoles the Ahmedabad
COVID hospital fire:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said that he spoke with Gujarat CM
Vijay Rupani and Ahmedabad Mayor Bijal Patel regarding the situation and sent
his condolences to those affected by this mishap. PM Modi also stated that the
administration was providing all possible assistance to the affected.
