Rohit Sharma Backs Bhuvneshwar Kumar After Four-Year India Comeback

Veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made his return to international cricket after almost four years away. He has been named in India’s squad for the first match of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand. The Bhuvneshwar Kumar comeback has excited fans, many of whom had written off the swing specialist’s chances of wearing the India jersey again.

Rohit Sharma Extends His Support

Former India captain Rohit Sharma was among the first to react to the news. Speaking on the show Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, he said, “We are heading to New Zealand. I hope he performs very well.” His brief remark has since gone viral on social media. Fans see it as a warm gesture towards a bowler who shared the dressing room with him for years.

IPL Form Earns the Recall

Bhuvneshwar’s return is built on strong domestic form. His consistent displays in the Indian Premier League convinced the selectors to give him another opportunity. He took 17 wickets in the 2025 season and followed it with 28 wickets in 2026, showing that his control and ability to move the ball remain intact. Both figures were enough to put him back in the national reckoning.

The 36-year-old brings considerable experience to the squad. He has 90 wickets in 88 T20Is for India, a record that places him among the most successful bowlers the country has produced in the format. His skill in the powerplay and his composure at the death are expected to add balance to the pace attack, especially in New Zealand’s seam-friendly conditions.

As India begin the series, all eyes will be on Bhuvneshwar. A strong showing would justify the selectors’ faith and strengthen his case for a longer stay in the side. For now, the support from Rohit Sharma and fans alike suggests the cricketing community is behind him.
