The police revealed that under section 153A and
other sections of IPC and SC/ST POA Amendment Act, 2015, a case was registered
at Miryalaguda in Telangana.
As per a court directive on a
petition filed by the father of a man who was killed in an incident of alleged honour
killing in 2018, a
case has been registered against director Ram Gopal
Varma (RGV). The
police revealed that the father of the victim Pranay, Balaswamy, went to seek a plea in the court that a
film on the same case of honour killing, which is pending in court, shouldn’t
be allowed to release as it would unduly influence the media and the audience.
He also protested the fact that the family’s photos were being used without
their consent.
The court sent a directive to the Police on Sunday, and the case has been registered against Ram Gopal Varma and the producer of the film in question.
Under Section 153A which punishes any promotion of enmity between
different groups based on religion, race, caste, place of birth, residence,
language, etc., and committing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, the
case was registered at Miryalaguda in Telangana.
In this alleged case of honour
killing, Pranay was killed in 2018, after he married an upper-caste woman.
Pranay’s father-in-law was the prime suspect in his murder and allegedly
committed suicide in March this year.
RGV doesn’t want to harm or
demean anyone:
On Sunday, Ram Gopal Varma responded
to the complaint in a series of tweets and said that his film was based on a
true event, but it is not the truth. RGV tweeted,” I once again reiterate that my film is
based and inspired from a true incident and it is not the truth… also, there’s
no mention of anyone’s caste in the film.”
The director further said that
his advocates will give an appropriate reply as required by law.
