Complaint has been  lodged against Sameer Wankhede; read why

On Friday, the Central Bureau of Investigation charged former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede with corruption after he detained Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in a drugs case two years ago.

Wankhede has been charged with violating Sections 7, 7A, and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) as well as 388 (extortion by threat) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case was filed against three public workers, including Sameer Wankhede, and raids occurred in over 30 cities throughout India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Ranchi, Lucknow, Guwahati, and Chennai.

Wankhede and others allegedly requested a bribe of Rs 25 crore in exchange for not incriminating Aryan Khan in the cocaine bust.

The complaint was filed against Wankhede, an Indian Revenue Service officer after the CBI conducted a preliminary investigation based on a vigilance report. During the due diligence investigation, it was discovered that Sameer Wankhede obtained assets through corruption.

A team lead by Wankhede attacked the Cordelia cruise ship at the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal in October 2021 and detained Aryan Khan and others.

Initially, the case was charged with narcotics possession, usage, and trafficking. Aryan Khan, who had been imprisoned for 22 days, was given a clean bill of health by NCB in May 2022 owing to a “lack of sufficient evidence.”

Due to charges of high-handedness levelled against the NCB team and Wankhede, a separate vigilance investigation was launched. Wankhede was eventually shifted to Chennai’s DG Taxpayer Service Directorate.
