On Tuesday afternoon, earthquake tremors were detected in Delhi-NCR and several places in north India.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck 30 km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir.
The quake occurred at a depth of 60 kilometres (37.28 miles), with the epicentre 99 kilometres north of Pathankot in Punjab, according to the EMSC.
The quake was felt at about 1:30 p.m. So far, there have been no reports of property damage or deaths.
Myanmar was rattled earlier Tuesday by a magnitude 3.7 earthquake, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The earthquake struck Myanmar on Tuesday at 2:53 a.m. (IST) and had a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the NCS. NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.7, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 02:53:06 IST, Lat: 26.31 & Long: 95.20, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar.”
As per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 struck Myanmar earlier on May 31.
This afternoon, an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck Doda, J&K, at 1:33 p.m.
“The earthquake terrified the schoolchildren.” People hurried out of stores. It was terrifying. “This was more intense than the tremors last week,” a Srinagar resident told news agency ANI.
Earthquake shakes in Pakistan:
A 5.6-magnitude quake rattled sections of Pakistan, including Islamabad’s capital, causing panic and pushing many to flee their homes.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the quake was felt around 1:04 p.m. local time and had a depth of 10 km, according to Geo News.
According to the PMD, the earthquake’s epicentre was in eastern Kashmir, with a longitude of 75.97 E and a latitude of 33.32 N.
After feeling tremors, people rushed out of their offices and homes in Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar. There were no early reports of injuries or property damage.
Tremors were reported in Punjab in Shakar Garh, Chichawatni, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Hafizabad, and Zafarwal. The quake struck Abbottabad, Swabi, and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Meanwhile, tremors were detected in the districts of Bagh, DhirKot, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Earthquakes of various magnitudes are common in Pakistan.
More than 74,000 individuals were killed in Pakistan’s biggest earthquake in 2005.
