The former Chief Minister of Pubjab Charanjit Singh Channi, summoned by the vigilance bureau to appear in a DA probe on Friday, says he is not afraid of the government’s move and will come before the VB.

The former Punjab CM Channi, invited to join the probe at 10 a.m., told a press conference at the Congress office in Chandigarh that he would go to the VB alone since they could arrest or torture him. “They might even kill me one day.” “I’m ready for it all,” he said, questioning if this is a democracy, mobocracy, or oligarchy.

On Thursday, the Congress leader stated that questions he raised about justice in sacrilege cases, insulting the jathedar, anti-Dalit measures, and compensation for crop loss had shaken the state government.

“The government offices are closed today due to a holiday for Baisakhi and Ambedkar Jayanti, but they have opened them to torture me,” he alleged before departing for the VB office in Mohali.

Channi questioned the summons’ timing, claiming that the AAP administration did not wish him to campaign for Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, the Congress candidate in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha byelection.

Channi was supported at the press conference by Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) deputy leader Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Chaudhary, as well as former ministers Brahm Mohindra and Aruna Chaudhary.

On Wednesday, he was asked to join the probe, but he declined by email. The VB summoned Charanjit Singh Channi on April 20 and then sent a new summons, asking him to attend the investigation on Friday at 10 a.m. at the VB headquarters in Mohali.

According to reports, the bureau has created a source report on former Punjab CM Channi’s assets, and when he arrives, a list of his assets will be asked for and linked to the source report.

The VB issued a lookout bulletin against Channi on March 7, suspecting he may flee abroad. Channi’s, his family members, and his aides’ assets are being probed for reportedly acquiring more wealth than their reported sources of income.

Channi has refused any wrongdoing and referred to the AAP government’s move as a “political vendetta.”

Brahm Mohindra, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Sham Sunder Arora, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Vijay Inder Singla, OP Soni, and Sangat Singh Gilzian are among ten former Congress ministers facing VB inquiries for corruption.
