Here are some leaks of iPhone 16 so far
Forget the iPhone 15, leaks about Apple’s 2024 iPhone 16 variants are already appearing. And the latest adds a startling twist, implying that Apple’s most divisive iPhone 15 Pro update may have finally died.
Following the confirmation of iPhone 15 price rises, Haitong International Securities tech expert Jeff Pu has disclosed that their controversial solid-state volume buttons are also unlikely to appear on iPhone 16 models.
This contradicts previous rumours stating that Apple was forced to delay the feature one generation due to unsolved technical issues during the mass production phase.
Leaks of the iPhone 16:
Solid-state buttons appeared to be a lock for the iPhone 15 series. Cirrus Logic, an Apple supplier, mentioned the technology in a thinly veiled leak to shareholders in November before updating in May, saying it was “no longer expected to come to market as planned.”
When pressed, solid-state volume buttons do not physically move. Instead, they provide haptic feedback to imitate the sensation of pressing a button.
The technology has already been used in the iPhone 7’s Home button and the Force Touch trackpad featured in later MacBooks.
It has the potential to offer significant advantages, such as a reduction in moving components, which can reduce the chance of mechanical failure, and improved water resistance by eliminating water filtration sites.
However, early iPhone 15 CADs show flat volume buttons that would be difficult to press with muscle memory and support for bespoke swipe movements, which divides opinion.
It felt like unnecessary overcomplication from a functional standpoint. While the volume buttons will not be released, one solid-state button will, with a configurable Action Button replacing the mute switch on this year’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models.
