In its biggest single-day spike, India registers 7,466 Covid-19 cases.

The total number of cases up to 1,65,799 as India becomes the 9th worst affected nation, the country’s death toll at 4,706.

On Friday, India registered record-breaking fresh 7,466 Covid-19 cases as the nation’s Coronavirus tally rose to 1,65,799, as per the date given by the Union Health Ministry. 175 daily deaths were recorded as the death toll also rose to 4,706. This is the first time that India has reported over 7000 cases on a single day. This means that India is now the 9th worst hit nation in the world due to the global pandemic

India’s recovery rate rises:

However, 71,105 patients recovered from the fatal disease and have been discharged. This is a positive sign for the recovery rate, which rose to 42.89%, taking the number of active Coronavirus cases to 89,987, revealed the Union Health Ministry’s data.  

India is on the 9th position among Covid-19 affected nations:

This surge in cases meant that India is now the 9th worst hit nation in the world due to the global pandemic. India overtook Turkey (1,60,979) in terms of the total number of cases. Delhi witnessed an unusual spike in the number of cases with reporting more than 1000 new infections, as its tally stood at 16,281 cases, thereby overtaking Gujarat’s total tally of 15,572. Delhi’s surge in cases also had a spillover effect on its neighbouring state of Haryana, which also reported its biggest spike with 123 new cases.

Maharashtra, the worst affected state, saw its tally rise to 59,545 and the death toll climbed to 1982. Mumbai, the worst affected Indian city, has breached 35,000 coronavirus positive cases as the International Airport in Mumbai handled 192 flights in the last four days after the Aviation Ministry resumed flight travel with safety and precautions. 

Globally, 3,60,000 people have died due to the novel COVID-19 virus as the total cases surged past the 5.8 million mark.
