On the anniversary of the historic Dandi Yatra on March 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ₹1,200 crore Gandhi Ashram Memorial masterplan at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The event also marked the opening of the redeveloped Kochrab Ashram.

He drew attention to the transformation of the ashram, which had dwindled to 5 acres from its original 120 acres, with only 36 out of 63 buildings remaining.
