India breached the 10,000 mark in a single day with
record-high 396 deaths. Supreme Court urges the government to clear the due
salary of doctors.
With over 10,956 fresh Covid-19 infections reported on Friday, India surpassed the United
Kingdom to become
the fourth worst affected nation due to the Coronavirus
pandemic as per
John Hopkins Coronavirus Research Centre. Friday’s tally was the biggest single
day surge in cases in the country along with the highest number of single day
deaths with 396 fatalities. This takes the country’s coronavirus cases to
297,535 and death toll to 8498, as per the Union Health Ministry’s data.
Recovery Rate continues to grow:
For a third consecutive day,
the number of recoveries were higher than the active patients’ tally, as per
the Health Ministry. 147,194 patients have recovered from this disease and the
total number of active patients stands at 141,182. The recovery rate improved to 49.47 percent.
ICMR terms lockdown successful:
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has deemed the nation-wide lockdown as “successful” in containing the novel Covid-19 virus. As per the first phase of a nationwide sampling, to check for the Coronavirus’ spread via testing for antibodies, 26,400 people were chosen randomly from 65 districts and only one percent of them got exposed to the virus in the first month of the nationwide lockdown.
Supreme Court says “In War, you
don’t make the soldiers unhappy”:
On Friday, The Supreme Court of India said that no coercive action will be
taken against private bodies which failed to pay full salaries during the
nation-wide lockdown. The apex court also urged the government to clear the
unpaid salaries of the doctors; the Supreme Court said, “In war, you don’t
make the soldiers unhappy.”
