With nearly 53,000 new COVID-19 cases, the death
toll in India reaches 38,135; Karnataka CM Yediyurappa and Karti Chidambaram
detected with coronavirus.
India on Monday, reported
nearly 53,000 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours to breach the
18-lakh mark. In the last 24 hours, fresh 52,972 coronavirus cases were reported to take the country’s
tally to 18,03,696. For a fourth consecutive day, India has witnessed a surge
of over 50,000 cases. The number of deaths on Monday was 771, taking the death
toll to 38,135. As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare, 11,86,203 patients have been cured and discharged in the country to
date and the total number of active cases rose to 579,357.
More politicians test positive
for the coronavirus:
On Monday, Lok Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu Karti Chidambaram revealed that he has tested positive for the novel COVID-19 infection and has home quarantined. More politicians have got affected in the last couple of days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah had tested coronavirus positive yesterday. Late last night, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa along with his daughter also tested positive. Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit also revealed that he had contracted the virus. Add to that, the sad demise of Uttar Pradesh’s minister Kamal Rani Varun yesterday only highlighted the risk of the fatal virus.
