India has eight times the number of cases in China
with fresh 22,252 Coronavirus infections detected in the last 24 hours.
On Monday, India’s death toll breached the 20,000 mark with new 467 deaths
in the country due to COVID-19. This takes the country’s deceased toll to 20,160.
India also registered 22,252 fresh Coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours which took the
nation’s tally past the 7-lakh-mark.
The active number of
Coronavirus cases in the country stands at 269,557, and 439,948 patients have
recovered from the deadly virus. This takes the recovery rate to 61.13 percent in the country as per the
data of the Indian Health Ministry.
With a total tally of 719,665, India has recorded eight times as many cases like China, where the virus originated in December 2019. According to a Reuters tally, India’s death rate per 10,000 people is low at 0.15, compared to that of United States’ 3.97 and The UK’s 6.65.
India tests over 1 Crore

On Monday, the number of
samples tested for Coronavirus in India crossed 1-crore-mark. Although it is a
milestone, the testing rate is still low compared to other countries. There
have been less than 7400 tests per million people in India, even though the daily
testing numbers have consistently increased and over 2 lakh daily samples are
being tested now.
Maharashtra death toll over
9000:
Maharashtra,
the worst affected Covid-19 state in the country, registered a further 204
deaths on Monday, which took the state’s death toll over the 9000 mark. The
tally of cases in the state is 211,987. In terms of the mortality rate,
Maharashtra is second with 4.27% after Gujarat’s 5.39 percent.
Global Coronavirus count has
exceeded 11.6 million with over 537,000 deaths.
