Nearly 35,000 new cases on a single-day high and the
death toll of India breached the 25000-mark.
On Friday, India achieved a
grim milestone as the total COVID-19 cases in India crossed 1 million mark. The
tally of coronavirus cases
reached 1,003,832 on Friday after recording its biggest single-day spike of
nearly 35,000 cases in the last 24 hours. The death toll in the country too
breached an unfortunate landmark, with more than 25,000 deaths. The total
deaths in India stood at 25,602 cases as per the data released by the Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare. The first half-million cases in India were
recorded in nearly four months period, while the other half-million cases were
registered in less than three weeks. With the Indian government lifting
lockdown restrictions in Unlock 1.0 and Unlock 2.0, the country is reeling with
the biggest daily surges regularly.
The Centre urges to states to
“utilize lockdown gainfully”:
The centre has urged the three eastern states of Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam to make the most of the re-imposing of the lockdown by implementing a three-pronged strategy to contain the spread of the deadly virus. The three eastern states have gone into complete or partial lockdown again, citing a huge surge in COVID-19 cases. The centre underlined the fact that it is not questioning their decision and urged the states to utilize the lockdown gainfully.
Bihar is the next big concern:
The state of Bihar has only tested 3.3 lakh samples to date, and
hence the growing number of cases in the state is a cause for concern. In the
last two weeks, the positivity rate in Patna and 14 districts around it has
increased from 4% to 15 percent.
Globally over 13.8 million
people have been infected with the virus, with more than 590,000 patients
dying.
