Punjab Kings Crush LSG by 54 Runs Amid Fielding Drama in IPL 2026

Mullanpur erupted on Sunday as Punjab Kings produced one of the most explosive batting performances of IPL 2026, dismantling Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs in a match that had everything — blistering strokeplay, a record team total, and a fielding nightmare that left head coach Ricky Ponting fuming on the sidelines.

Arya and Connolly Set the Stage Ablaze

Priyansh Arya (93) and Cooper Connolly (87) were nothing short of sensational, smashing 16 sixes between them and stitching together a 182-run second-wicket partnership in just 13.2 overs. Their carnage propelled PBKS to 254/7 — the highest team total of this IPL season, eclipsing Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s previous best of 250/3.

In reply, Lucknow Super Giants never truly threatened despite handy contributions from skipper Rishabh Pant (43), opener Mitchell Marsh (40), and Aiden Markram (42). They eventually limped to 200/5 in 20 overs, falling well short of the target.

Shashank’s Drops Overshadow Punjab’s Triumph

The match’s talking point off the pitch was Shashank Singh’s horror day in the field. He dropped three catches, with the most glaring coming in the 18th over when Markram’s lofted shot sailed over for a six off Arshdeep Singh. Ponting’s visible fury on camera summed up the frustration. However, captain Shreyas Iyer lightened the mood post-match, playfully covering Shashank’s face with a cap before Ponting himself embraced the fielder, drawing a line under the incident.

Punjab Kings, runners-up in IPL 2025, now lead the points table with five wins from six matches and 11 points at a net run rate of +1.420.
