Rishi Sunak has been looking for a new party chairperson for above a week now following the sacking of Nadhim Zahawi.
One well-placed source informed the BBC they expected Mr Zahawi’s heir to be Trade Minister Greg Hands. Mr Sunak’s cabinet will be meeting afterwards to discuss the changes.
If that were the issue, Mr Sunak would search for a new trade minister. We understand the present Business Secretary, Grant Shapps – an ex-party chairman – will be someone other than the new party leader.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is also predicted to be split up.

A ministry concentrated on energy security will be made. When he was campaigning for the position last summer, the prime minister vowed to re-establish a standalone Department for Energy.
Mr Sunak wants more emphasis on ensuring the UK’s energy future, especially after the recent price spikes. One of the new units is anticipated to be the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
There is a delay at the top of government about whether this new department will take on duty for online security, especially the Online Safety Bill, or whether it will stay with the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
