A warming dessert that blends immunity‑boosting ingredients with seasonal sweetness.

As the festive season of Dussehra coincides with the onset of winter, families often seek dishes that are both celebratory and nourishing. Renowned chef and MasterChef India judge Ranveer Brar has introduced a recipe that balances indulgence with wellness: raw pumpkin halwa. This preparation not only satisfies sweet cravings but also enhances immunity, thanks to its thoughtful use of turmeric, ginger, and jaggery.

Brar shared the recipe on social media, and it takes about an hour to make. It begins with white pumpkin, peeled, seeded, and grated. Grate fresh turmeric root alongside it to infuse the dish with vibrant colour and medicinal benefits. In a kadai, ghee melts and is flavoured with cloves and cardamom, creating a fragrant base. Slowly sauté the grated pumpkin and turmeric for nearly half an hour, letting their natural flavours deepen.

Once softened, add jaggery, which lends a rich sweetness that complements the earthy pumpkin. A pinch of salt, crushed black pepper, and dried ginger powder follow, balancing the taste with subtle spice and warmth. Cook the mixture until it thickens into a luscious halwa, then garnish with sliced pistachios. Served warm, it offers comfort and nourishment in equal measure.

This dish is distinctive for its dual purpose. On one hand, it is a festive dessert that fits seamlessly into celebratory spreads. On the other, it is a health‑conscious recipe designed to strengthen the body during seasonal transitions. Turmeric, long valued in Indian kitchens, offers anti‑inflammatory benefits, while ginger supports digestion and circulation. Pumpkin is rich in fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants, making the halwa a clever way to add vegetables to a sweet treat.

Brar’s culinary philosophy shines through in this recipe. With nearly three decades of experience, he has consistently championed dishes that honour tradition while addressing modern needs. His raw pumpkin halwa exemplifies this approach- rooted in Indian heritage yet mindful of contemporary lifestyles that prioritize both taste and wellness.

As families gather for Dussehra and prepare for the colder months, this halwa is more than dessert. It reminds us that festive indulgence can also be nourishing, and that age‑old ingredients remain relevant in today’s kitchens. Ranveer Brar’s creation celebrates balance, where health and flavour coexist beautifully.
