Jadeja Asks How to Apply for Selector Post After Agarkar Exit

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a rare appearance on X, hours after the BCCI confirmed that Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector had come to an end. Jadeja commented on a BCCI post announcing a vacancy for selector and asked what the procedure was to apply for the role.

A Rare Social Media Appearance

Jadeja is not known to be active on the platform. His previous reply to a tweet came on February 19, when he engaged with former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on a post about Nepal cricket. The latest comment has therefore drawn plenty of attention, with many reading it as a cryptic remark on the selection setup.

Was There a Rift With Agarkar?

Jadeja and Agarkar have never openly been in a stand-off. Agarkar did, however, play an instrumental role in the Indian T20I team’s shift from senior to junior players. He felt the side needed to look towards youngsters after its poor T20 World Cup 2022 campaign in Australia, and he set in motion a plan for the team to play with a different identity.

During Agarkar’s tenure, Jadeja was sidelined from ODIs, although Agarkar maintained that the all-rounder was an integral part of the team. Jadeja has said he was not surprised by the decisions taken. There is no confirmed rift between the two, but the timing of the comment has fuelled speculation about tensions during the selection period and the team’s restructuring.

It remains unclear whether Jadeja’s query was serious or simply a light-hearted dig. With the BCCI now looking to fill the vacancy, the cricketing world will be watching closely to see who takes charge of the selection panel, and whether the all-rounder’s post turns out to be more than a passing comment.
