Southwest Monsoon Arrives Early in Gujarat

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Southwest Monsoon has arrived in Gujarat ahead of schedule, beginning in Navsari on Tuesday.

Typically expected around June 15, the monsoon’s early arrival marks a significant change compared to last year, when it began on June 25 due to delays caused by Cyclone Biparjoy.

Southwest Monsoon and Weather Forecast:

  • Recent Rainfall: Several talukas in Gujarat received showers between Monday and Tuesday. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Santrampur, Mahisagar, with 40 mm, followed by Morwa Hadaf in Panchmahal (27 mm), Kalol in Gandhinagar (22 mm), Kadana in Mahisagar (20 mm), and Sanjeli in Dahod (15 mm).
  • Forecast for Wednesday: The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and surface wind gusts up to 30-40 kmph across the state.

Areas to Expect Rain:

  • South Gujarat: Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, and Narmada.
  • North Gujarat: Panchmahal and Dahod.
  • Saurashtra: Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath.

Weather Warnings and Predictions:

The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms and gusty winds on Wednesday in the regions above. The state is expected to continue experiencing light to moderate rainfall until June 16.

Despite the onset of the monsoon, temperatures in some parts of Gujarat remained high:

  • Surendranagar and Rajkot: 41.8°C
  • Deesa: 41.6°C
  • Vallabh Vidyanagar: 41.5°C
  • Kandla Airport: 41.3°C
  • Gandhinagar: 40.2°C
  • Amreli: 40°C
  • Vadodara and Bhuj: 39°C
  • Bhavnagar: 38.4°C
  • Surat: 35.4°C

National Outlook:

The IMD has previously predicted that India will receive normal rainfall this year, which is crucial for agricultural planning and water resource management across the country.
