Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, tells employees; Forget about money, just have fun at work

Google CEO Sundar Pichai faced heated questions at a recent all-hands meeting after the company cut employees’ entertainment and travel budgets. In response, he stated that employees should not associate money and perks with having fun at work.

After reporting lower-than-expected gains for the second quarter in a row, Google cut the budget for employee travel and entertainment.

The change has not gone well with employees. Who recently sought clarification from CEO Sundar Pichai on managing productivity, the company’s austerity on the leisure budget, and layoffs.

According to NEWS, at an all-hands meeting last week, Pichai faced questions about cost-cutting from employees. A highly rated question by Google employees asked Pichai why the company was “nickel-and-diming employees” by slashing travel and other budgets. When “Google has record profits and huge cash reserves” as a result of the Covid pandemic.

In response to the question, Pichai encouraged employees to stick together in the face of such macroeconomic conditions. “How should I put it? Look, I hope you are all keeping up with the news.

“I think it is important that as a company, we pull together to get through moments like this,” Pichai says in an audio clip from the news.

“I remember when Google was small and scrappy,” he continued. We should not always associate entertainment with money. I believe that you can walk into a hardworking start-up and find people having fun and that this should not always equate to money.”

During the intense all-hands meeting, Sundar Pichai sounded annoyed at times. Even saying, “We do not always get to choose the macroeconomic conditions.”
