Tarek Fatah, a Pakistani columnist and author resident in Canada, died today after a long fight with cancer, according to his daughter Natasha Fatah. He was 73 years old.

“The Lion of Punjab.” Hindustan’s son. I adore Canada. The truth-teller. Defender of the law. The voice of the disadvantaged, underdogs, and oppressed. Tarek Fatah has handed up the baton… his revolution will be carried on by all who knew and loved him. Will you come with us? “1949-2023,” Natasha wrote on Twitter.

Natasha tweeted on Sunday about spending a “slow Sunday with dad,” “listening to old Bollywood songs,” and their “shared love for Mother India.”

Here’s the Tweet shared by his daughter Natasha Fatah.

“Enjoying a leisurely Sunday morning with my father.” I’m listening to old Bollywood tunes and wearing orange in honour of our mutual love for Mother India. “And a splash of red for our adopted and adored home, Canada,” she wrote.

Fatah was well-known for his advanced views on Islam and also his outspoken criticism of Pakistan. He frequently declared his support for India’s BJP-led NDA management.

Fatah was born in Pakistan in 1949 and moved to Canada in the early 1980s, where he worked as a political activist, writer, and television host, as well as authoring several books.
