Ukraine Minister Emine Dzheppar apologize for disrespecting Goddess Kali

Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister, Emine Dzheppar, apologised on Tuesday for a tweet from her country’s defence ministry “depicting Hindu Goddess Kali in (a) distorted manner.”

“Ukraine and its people value the unique Indian culture and appreciate any assistance.” The representation has already been removed… Ukraine is determined to expand relations in the spirit of mutual respect and friendship,” Dzheppar tweeted.

On Sunday, Ukraine’s defence ministry posted a photo by Ukrainian artist Maksym Palenko of a female in an iconic position by Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe, with the figure’s face and details resembling Kali. The picture was titled ‘piece of art’ by the ministry.

The remark was widely attacked online, and the Ukraine military ministry deleted the tweet; Twitter users stated the ministry had acted in a ‘disrespectful’ and ‘Hinduphobic’ manner.

“I am absolutely shocked to see the Ukrainian defence handle mocking Maa Kali, a revered Hindu goddess,” one user remarked.

This is blatant insensitivity and ignorance. I implore them to remove the insulting content and apologise. Respect for all religions and beliefs is of the utmost importance.”
