Waheeda Rehman will be honored with Dadasaheb Phalke award

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced that renowned actor Waheeda Rehman will get the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year. The great actor has appeared in films like Guide and Reshma Aur Shera.

Anurag Thakur announced the Waheeda Rehman Achievement:

Anurag Thakur, the I&B minister, made the news on Twitter on Tuesday. He stated, “I feel an immense sense of happiness and honor in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema.”

“Waheeda ji has been critically acclaimed for her roles in Hindi films, including Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi, and several others,” he continued.

Throughout her five-decade career, she has played various parts with great skill, earning her a National Film Award for her performance as a clanswoman in the film Reshma and Shera. 

Waheeda ji, a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan recipient, exemplifies the passion, commitment, and grit of a Bharatiya Nari who can achieve the highest level of professional achievement through her hard work.”

Further, he says about Dadasaheb Phalke Award:

“At a time when Parliament has passed the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, her receiving this lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian cinema and one who has dedicated her life after films to philanthropy and the greater good of society.” 

“I congratulate her and humbly pay my respects to her rich body of work, which is inextricably linked to our film history,” he continued.

Waheeda made her debut with the Telugu movie Rojulu Marayi (1955). She has been part of many movies such as Pyaasa (1957), Guide (1965), Khamoshi (1969), Phagun (1973), Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991), Rang De Basanti (2006), and Delhi 6 (2009) among many others.
