Apple’s App Store acknowledged on Wednesday that it blocked potentially fraudulent App Store transactions worth approximately $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 11,021 crores) last year. The Cupertino company claimed to have removed over 1.6 million potentially dangerous. And vulnerable apps and app updates from defrauding users.

With the App Review process, more than 107,000 new developers’ apps were added to the store in 2021. In addition, apple rejected 34,000 apps for violating privacy, while 157,000 apps were dismissed for being label as copycats or misleading users into making in-app purchases.

The company’s new announcement comes when the iPhone maker is under fire around the world for its stringent App Store policies.

Apple detailed the App Store’s efforts to prevent potentially fraudulent transactions on the platform in a new post on its newsroom website. According to the report, Apple blocked fraudulent transactions worth approximately $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 11,021 crores) on the App Store last year and over 1.6 million risky and vulnerable apps and app updates from defrauding users. In addition, the company confirmed that it used a variety of measures to detect and prevent fraud. Including an App Review process that uses machine learning and heuristics.

Apple’s multi-tiered App Review process gathered information about the apps’ potential issues and violations. Every app and update were cross-check to ensure that they adhere to the App Store’s privacy, security, and spam policies. Last year, Apple claims that App Review helped over 107,000 new developers get their apps into the App Store. In addition, 835,000 apps and 805,000 app updates found to be problematic were ban. App developers who have had their apps banned may file an appeal with the App Review Board. More than 157,000 apps were reject because they were imitations, misled users, or manipulate into making in-app purchases. Similarly, Apple’s App Review team halted over 34,500 apps for including hidden or undocumented features over the same period.
