Tokyo Paralympics 2021: India’s Avani Lekhara has made history by winning gold at the Tokyo Paralympics.

 Avani Lekhara is the first Indian woman to win gold in the Olympic and Paralympic 2021 Games.

Indian shooter Avani Lekhara has made history by winning gold at the Tokyo Paralympics 2021. Avani equaled the world record by scoring 249.6 points in the women’s 10m air rifle class SH1 final and bagged the first place.

Beating China’s Zhand Kuiping:

She overtook China’s Zhang Kuiping (248.9 points). And Ukraine’s Iriana Shatnik (227.5) won the bronze medal by scoring points. This is India’s first medal in the shooting competition at the Paralympic Games. This is the country’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020.

Avani finished seventh among 21 shooters in the event’s qualifying round and advanced to the finals. She scored 621.7 after six shots in 60 series. Enough to make room in the top eight shooters.

Third Woman to win Gold Medalin Paralumpics:

Avani Lekhra is the third woman to win a medal from India in the Paralympics. Bhavina Patel is the second woman from India to win a medal in the history of the Paralympic Games. Deepa Malik is the first Indian woman to win a medal in the Paralympic Games. She won the silver medal at the Rio Paralympics 2016 in the shot put with a best throw of 4.61 meters. He is paralyzed from the waist down.

Fourth Indian athlete to win gold in Paralympics:

Avani Lekhra is the fourth Indian athlete to win gold in the Paralympic Games. The first gold in the Paralympic Games was given to India by Muralikant Patkar in 1972. 

Patkar set a world record in the men’s 50m freestyle swimming competition with a time of 37.33 seconds. And won gold. This was India’s first gold in the Paralympic Games. After this, Devendra Zazaria won gold for India in javelin throw at Athens Paralympics 2004 and Rio Paralympics 2016. Rio L, Mariyappan Thangavelu won the gold medal in the Rio event by jumping 1.89 meters in the high jump event. And now Avani Lekhra has won gold in the air rifle at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Sixth Indian to win gold in Olympic-Paralympic Games – 

Avani Lekhra is the sixth Indian to win gold in Olympic-Paralympic Games. Muralikant Petkar, Devendra Zazaria and Mariyappan Thangavelu had won gold in the Paralympic Games. Abhinav Bindra won gold in Beijing 2008 while Neeraj Chopra won gold in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
