India’s coronavirus tally spikes to 27,67,274, with
the death toll at 52,889; the positive rate of the novel COVID-19 virus
declines.
Till 9 am Wednesday, India
reported a fresh spike in the total number of COVID-19 cases and registered 64,531 new infections.,
which took the nation’s COVID-19 tally to 27,67,274. India reported its biggest
single-day rise in the number of deaths, with 1092 fatalities. These numbers
trumped the previous single-day high of 1002. This has pushed the death toll in
the country to 52,889. India’s positivity rate is declining for the first time since May.
From the ones who are being tested for the virus, a far lesser number of people
are being found infected now, as compared to May. The positivity rate declined
to 8.72 percent from the high of 9.2 percent on August 9. Since then, the rate
has been declining and indicates positive news for the country.
Indian recoveries surge past
20-lakh mark:
As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India currently has a total of 676,514 active cases. India’s recoveries achieved a positive milestone, as the tally of recovered patients breached the 20-lakh mark, and now stands at 20,37,871. Active coronavirus infections in the country are now less than 25 percent of the total tally. India’s case-fatality rate also showed some positive signs, as it fell to 1.92 percent.

3-lakh mark:
Cases in Andhra
Pradesh have
surged drastically during the past few weeks, and this has resulted in the
state breaching a total of 3-lakh infections. It is now the only third state
with more than 3 lakh cases in the country with 306,261 infections. Maharashtra reported its highest single-day deaths, with
422 causalities. The worst-affected state in India due to the Coronavirus also
reported 11,119 new cases of which 931 were from Mumbai.
