IndiGo, the budget airline, was honored with the prestigious ‘Airline of the Year’ title at the Air Transport Awards 2024, held in Athens, Greece, last week.

The event, attended by industry stalwarts, celebrated excellence and innovation in the aviation sector.

Dedication to the IndiGo Team:

Accepting the award, CEO Pieter Elbers attributed the success to the dedication of IndiGo’s 35,000 employees. He highlighted their role in achieving milestones such as becoming the first Indian airline to transport 100 million passengers in 2023.

Elbers emphasized IndiGo’s commitment to affordability, punctuality, and quality service. He credited the airline’s rapid growth to its simple yet effective approach of offering affordable fares, maintaining on-time flights, and ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.

Prestigious Recognition by Air Transport Awards:

Organized in collaboration with Hermes – Air Transport Organisation and ATN – Air Transport News, the Air Transport Awards 2024 aimed to acknowledge outstanding contributions in the aviation industry. Winners were selected through a combination of reader votes and evaluation by international aviation experts.

Established in 2005, IndiGo has emerged as India’s biggest aviation company in market share. With a fleet exceeding 350 aircraft, the airline operates approximately 2000 daily flights, serving over 85 domestic and 30 international destinations.

Milestones and Expansion Plans:

IndiGo recently achieved significant milestones, including operating 2,000 daily flights and transporting 100 million passengers annually.

With ambitious plans to double its fleet size by the decade’s end, the low-cost carrier aims to further expand its network and strengthen its position in the aviation industry.
